Eric Bean

HOME: Currently in Madison, WI for med school. Hometown is Chapel Hill, NC, great place to live. Favorite "hometown" is Palo Alto, CA for the perfect weather, scenic ocean, mountains, and redwood forests, and great athletic and outdoors culture.
NICKNAME: most teammates and classmates call me "Bean," but this is confusing because a 4th year med student's nickname is also "Bean" though this real name isn't Bean, so some classmates have taken to calling me "Ironman" fine for school but would be embarrassing in the triathlon community...Growing up, dad called me "Dammit Eric!" and mom called me "Eric!!!"...some teammates call me "The Legend" (for a story that can never be repeated)
MUSIC: almost everything, depends on mood: DMB, Eminem, Paul Simon, Frank Sinatra, Norah Jones, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, U2, Rusted Root, Madonna, Sting, Nelly Furtado, Ottmar Liebert, Justin Timberlake, Kylie Minogue, Mozart, old GnR (Appetite and Lies)
FAVORITE FOOD:

Breakfast, Mexican, Italian, sushi, dessert, fresh fruits and veggies, salmon, oatmeal, almonds, ginger, chocolate covered ____, BBQ, anything grilled, soup.

HOW YOU RELAX: Sleep! shower, socializing, and other things that start with "s", reading, coaching, enjoying the outdoors.
HOW YOU PREPARE
FOR AN EVENT:
On a daily/short term basis I listen to my body and do what it needs; long-term is a focused and disciplined approach starting months in advance, so when I show up on the starting line I'm relaxed and confident.
RECENT ACHIEVEMENT: Published an article in the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery on a novel atrial retractor for minimally invasive robot-assisted cardiac surgery. Still racing OK despite med school dominating my life: 2008 Results: 21st pro at Ironman Hawaii, WI state TT champ, 4th at Tour of Fitchburgh stage race, 2nd at USA Cycling Master's Nationals TT....2006 Omnium/"Best Overall Rider" title at USA Cycling National Champs (30-34 age group)
FAVORITE QUOTE: "Whether you think you can or can't, your right." Henry Ford. Other good thing from Ford is their Ironman sponsorship. Now they just need to make a good hybird.
WHAT'S IN YOUR TRANSITION
BAG YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT:
iPod touch
WHERE YOU SEE
YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS:
in a place that's sunny, warm, and that has mountains, an ocean, and progressive culture...working as a physician and coach...still an "athlete" ...enjoying family bike rides...
YOUR WEBSITE: Under construction: FastForwardTriathlon.com, FFTcoaching.com
