Kate Pallardy

"If you want to become a strong biker, you have to be 100% dialed into your bike. You can’t waste energy wiggling and niggling. The only saddle that allows me the comfort to stay focused is ISM. They are my heroes!"

HOME: Santa Monica, CA
NICKNAME: I was once regarded as ‘Kate the skate’ but never skated…go figure
MUSIC: When I’m running, I like the hard hitters but after that I tone it down to some classical maybe even Ed Van Fleet tossed in with some GooGoo Dolls, the Fray. I’m wild.
FAVORITE FOOD:

Pineapple & Coconut Butter and an insanely big salad

HOW YOU RELAX: Relaxing is my specialty! I do lots of reading and love to dabble in some writing. I ponder on deep thoughts but, by far, my favorite is games…yahtzee, scrabble, poker, hearts, euchre. Pick a game and you will surely be crushed.
HOW YOU PREPARE
FOR AN EVENT:
and from those workouts, I know if I am ready or at least, I have an idea of what I am capable of. New to this year, T1-T2 training. Let’s just say I’m not quite swan like in the transitional areas.
RECENT ACHIEVEMENT: 4th at Ironman Louisville
FAVORITE QUOTE: "We must embrace pain and burn it as fuel for our journey."  ~Kenji Miyazawa
WHAT'S IN YOUR TRANSITION
BAG YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT:
Chamois Butter, bananas and socks.
WHERE YOU SEE
YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS:
I’d like to be an accomplished author and run my own little business then of course, travel the world and experience the cultures. All while continuing on my little triathlon path.

ABOUT YOU

This year (2009) was my first year racing professionally. I came into triathlon quite a bit differently then most. I would say that I am an ultra runner at heart but now that’s all disguised with my love for triathlon and the bike. Though, there is something so awesome about the simplicity of an ultra marathon. Just a pair of shoes and a camelback. There are some insanely gifted athletes out there in the trails…truly human gazelles. My favorite race to this day was the Vermont 100. Few things can compare to running 100 miles. It is ridiculously painful yet so rewarding. You feel alive with no emotion going untouched. I most definitely will be conquering many more 100s in my lifetime! Don’t worry mates; triathlon is here to stay for quite some time. I love the journey swim, bike, run has taken me on. I’m living and learning out there everyday. You meet the most incredible people and it has already taught me so much about myself. I guess I’m just Living the dream as some would say.
